For most people, change is not something that is readily accepted. It doesn't feel good, it creates too many unknowns and it's just plain scary for many people. It's easy and comfortable to keep doing what we know -- even when we know what we're currently doing is not working for us.
In my business coaching with clients, I've seen many instances where people just don't want to do things differently so they stay stuck in "repeat mode" and can't move forward. They get frustrated and bitter when business doesn't change, but they forget to look at themselves and see that that they are not making the change, hence the business will not change.
In coaching, I offer my clients three simple suggestions when it comes to change:
- Stop doing something that's not working
- Start doing something that will work
- Change something so that it works better
Change is scary, yes. But change is necessary for growth, whether it's at the individual or the business level.
If you have tried to change in the past and feel like you failed, don't give up on yourself. I have several clients who made changes and tried many different things for themselves and their businesses. Some changes worked. Some didn't. But the difference is that they were willing to make a change -- try something different -- and they didn't give up. Most people who are successful have tried many times before they succeed. It's all part of the process.
Free yourself of the same old behaviors. Accept more for yourself. Have an open mind to all the possibilities change can bring. You might just surprise yourself.
