- Move away from lecturing to storytelling in all aspects of the business. Tips: Create a character your employees can relate to and use this character to share and reinforce initiatives. You can also have your C-level executives produce monthly videos to share results instead of sending them in the form of Excel spreadsheets.
- Micro-learning. Remember when training only happened once a year in a week long training center? Those days are long behind us. Studies show micro-learning is more cost effective, retention rate is much higher, and it yields better business results. Tip: Break down the results you want into 5 minute training segments. And share across different media daily.
- Make it a competition. In every other aspect of business we stack rank our employees. Why not encourage employee engagement and development through competition? Tip: If you already have an internal social network add points for each comment your employee makes on something outside of their traditional work group (FourSquare uses this in the form of coins). If Six Sigma is relevant to your business have your employees wear the color jacket that reflects which belt they have obtained. (Jabil Manufacturing utilizes this best practice)
